swing kids.

Ok, well, first of all:
If you haven't seen Swing Kids (1993), do it! It is a truly amazing movie.

It takes place during Hitler's reign, in Nazi Germany. Following a group of friends that are part of the Swing Kids (Swingjugend) subculture. (Basically, Swing Kids are a bunch of jazz- and swing-loving... kids.. that define themselves in swing music, and oppose the Nation-Socialist Party in every way, particularly the Hitler Youth.) Jazz music was offensive to the Nazi values because it was often preformed by African Americans, as well as a number of Jewish artists. The Nazi's referred to is as "Entartete Musik" (or, Degenerate music). These boys fight for the freedom that holds them together, and find themselves being pulled in directions they never thought they would.

It will make you cry.

Anyway, it is a moving, inspiring, heartbreaking movie.

And for an awesome song:

They butchered it.
I have never been so disappointed.
Really, my friend and I are at a loss of word to explain how let down we were.
We didn't expect it to amount to the book in ANY way, but what we watched was so.... I dunno, I don't recommend seeing it. Honestly, the only thing I thought they got right was the daemons. And I must say, I enjoyed Lord Faa in the movie. (And Asriel was a babe.) But those things set aside, the film made a mockery of a truly amazing classic.

Read the book.

the concert was amazing O_o
we got a picture with the lead
guitarist from cute is what we aim for,
he was really nice, and just standing
outside in the halls meeting fans.
(I'll put that picture up as soon
as my friend gets it off her phone)

I'm sad it's over.
I hope they come back soon.

I refuse to take off my Plain White T's
